Coldcut's "Beats & Pieces" is of course nearly 30 (Thirty!) years old. My bad maths.
Bought the original 12" for £1.50 or so. A collector later paid me £200. I was sad to see it go, but...

Well said. Coldcut led the way a few years back and their version of Erik B & Rakim's Paid In Full was a classic. Contains 27 (TWENTY SEVEN) samples according to whosampled.com!
Love that track Coldcut did with The Fall a few years back. Superb contrast in styles.

Fantastic site that does exactly what it says on the tin. Pretty much the wiki of the sampling world.
For what it's worth my personal favourite is the very obvious Pet Shop Boys cover of 'Where The Streets Have No Name'. A cover rather than a sample of course although rips apart the pomposity of the original.

To me, it's just sad how sampling as got ever less inventive as technology as got better...
